MC has all its starters back in with a 25-16 lead … Mater Dei is just pushing, pushing, pushing the ball … MC’s Brandi Henton gets her 2^nd foul at 5:12 while trying to stop a drive by Jazz in the lane. Jazz hits a FT and it’s 25-17. Lots of slapping and lots of hands by Mater Dei on defense, but it’s been a loose game so far so you can’t complain too much …

MC brings in its sub with 2:00 left in the first quarter, as 5-11 Danielle Thompson, 5-9 freshman Valerie Moore and guard Vanessa Cagle enter …

A furious last couple minutes, with MC going on a 12-2 run after both teams were forced to go their bench because of the fast pace … Mater XDei has no offense to speak of in its half-court game – MD has yet to score out of its set half-court offense – everything has been on transition, tap or inbounds …

It’s time to tip off … We’ll be keeping a particularly close eye on Mater Dei’s 6-foot-1-inch Soulijah Evans (14 ppg, 8 rpg) and MC’s 5-6  point guard Jhazmine Lynch (15 ppg, 4 assists, 3 steals a game). To make things simpler, we’re going too give then nicknames – Soul and Jazz …

Both Modesto Christian and Mater Dei are on the court for their pregame shootarounds … Mater Dei took a roundabout way to getting here, losing in their San-Diego Section final, but sweeping the three Southern California games to win the regional title and a berth in today’s state final … Mater Dei beat Bishop’s of La Jolla 54-51 in the SoCal, after having lost to Bishop’s 71-63 in the section final just a week earlier …

Sm scores quick in OT, going inside to 6-2 freshman Deandra Moore for the 56-54 lead … Henton from long-range and its’ GOOOOODDD!! For a trey and a 57-56 lead at 2:45 … SM gets 3 shots under the basket before Lucchesi blocks it ouf of bounds. Danielle Thompson gets a big steal in the open court and MC has the ball. Lauren Lucchesi fouled after grabbing a rebound and she’s shooting 2: Both good, Mc 59-56 at 1:43 to go …

Brandi Henton makes 2 FTs to bring MC within 43-41. She’s doing a great job penetrating the lane and getting the Crusaders out on the break today …
