Fire destroys Modesto house that was site of pot raid - The city-owned house that was the site of a $1 million marijuana bust last week was destroyed by fire on Monday night, according to the Modesto Fire Department. [Local Modesto News]


Maybe it's just the part of me that relishes conspiracies and 'wheels-spinning-within-wheels' theory, but isn't the timing very odd?

Olsen and Council Can't find Money for the Parks But can find Money to cover their mistakes with the Bus Garage

While Kristin Olsen voted to close Parks and park restrooms because they didn't have any money, they sure found EXTRA money when it came to covering their mistakes is planning the Bus Garage.  Can you imagine the cost over runs when it's being built when it cost Modesto over an extra third just for the plans.

We have to many insiders on the council it's time to send a message of "NO MORE" will we tolerate campaign contributions in exchange for votes favoring special interests.

Incumbent Olsen leads in fund raising, with $46,355 this year.

The candidate with the second largest war chest after Olsen is District 4's Joe Muratore, a commercial real estate consultant. He's received $31,404 this year.

Perine has raised $15,041 in 2009. District 4 contender Robert Stanford has collected $1,564 during the same period.

You don't need a city planner to know which way the sprawl blows. Just look at a map of the five advisory vote areas proposed by the city of Modesto.

Months ago, nearly everyone agreed that new growth should target job creation. They've missed the target. The five areas on the Nov. 3 ballot include one proposed business park, one area that is already developed, and three large areas offering more residential growth -- thousands of new houses in our city of foreclosures. Seemingly, we've learned nothing from past mistakes.

Nowhere to nowhere, thats the destinations of StanCogs most recent boondoggle.

Why are we being sold this developers dream?

Because of C.R.E.A.M. 

Cash Rules Everything Around Modesto and as we all know it does. The story was that we need to connect 99 to east of Modesto but the DD(developers dream) doesn't go all the way to 99 it starts at McHenry.  Now they claim is local money will be used to fund the lanes connecting to 99 but as we all know we don't even have money to fill potholes so how can we ever expect to build a new multi lane expressway to 99.

Besides if they aren't even concerned about a corridor to 99, how can we believe they ever plan on building the connection.

It's all a developers dream, a fantasy  to once again have the taxpayers foot the bill for developers...sounds a lot like Village I doesn't it.

The game and the players are the same and we are the ones being played for the fools.

On The Money: Beach business climate always seems sunny

Even when I’m on vacation I am always checking out the business climate where I’m supposed to be relaxing. It’s just a habit I guess. On a recent trip to Santa Cruz, I was curious how this laid-back beach region was doing amid this stifling recession.

 

I was surprised to see that housing prices from Santa Cruz to Monterey really hadn’t come down much. While there do seem to be some short-sales and bank-owned properties on the market, if you’re not willing to drop $700,000 to live in one of the beach communities, not necessarily on the beach, or $500,000 in some of the farther-out enclaves up in the redwoods, you’re out of luck.
