I think the Bee's Adam Ashton missed the big story that came out of last night's Modesto City Council meeting.  Apparently, the Stanislaus Taxpayers' Association is against lower taxes for businesses and against the recruitment of new businesses to Modesto that will help lessen the tax burden on our citizens.

Ashton points out in his article that two of the three people that testified in opposition to the measure were from the Stanislaus Taxpayers' Association and he goes on to quote them in the article (wow, there were only three at the meeting in opposition?  That could have been a story in itself "Apathetic opposition paves way for increased tax roles, and a better quality of life for its citizens" - just a stab). 

One quote was given by Eric Reimer (man can he put you to sleep - a quicker cadence could help), which he states that this measure is just stealing from other cities.  Excuse me!  I thought the Stanislaus Taxpayers' Association was looking out for Modesto taxpayers, but now it looks as if they care about those taxpayers in Bay Area and Los Angeles more than us.  Yes, you heard it correctly.  They admitted that the measure WOULD lessen the tax burden on businesses in our community, but that IT WOULD BE UNFAIR TO OTHER CITIES IN THE STATE.  That was the point that they focused on in their defeat of this measure - that it was UNFAIR to other cities!  What is this nonsense!
