The Bee Wins Law Suit: Is Print Media Really Concerned About Informing The Public

The print media often claims that its purpose is to provide information to the citizens. Does anyone believe this?

The Bee recently sued to obtain pension information on Stan County retired employees. Public employee are also citizens. Who agrees this information should be public information?

Since the print media has the ability to decide elections, sway peoples oppinions, and choose which facts it puts in a story or leaves out, should'nt they provide the salaries of all its staff and employees?

If the  print media were concerned about quality factual reporting, all papers would be free. If the goal of papers is to inform the public of what is occuring, then all papers should be free. The cost of making papers would be paid for by Ads.

It is time for Fall Foliage

Over the past week or so I’ve been able to spend some time in the Quincy/Plumas County area catching the spectacular fall foliage.  Back home only a couple of days I decided to take a look at what our own area has to offer. If you get a chance to take a ride past Sonora and onto Twain Harte, take the Middle Camp Road out to Longway Rd. at the Phoenix Lake Road intersect.  Most of Middle Camp Rd.

Attention, photographers and those who admire photography. Several weeks ago we started a Modesto Bee group on the photo-sharing site Flickr. A group on Flickr is a place where people post photos on a common theme - everything from fashion to sports to flowers to, in this case, photos of people, places and things in the Modesto area.

To contribute to the group, you must be a Flickr user. But even if you're not, you can still go to the group and browse photos people have taken in our area. Here's just one of the many images there.

This So-So Budget will have to do...WILL IT?... SHOULD IT?

This budget will have to do? It's obvious that the "GO ALONG TO GET ALONG" POLICY of the Bee has been inacted once again. This should be a call to arms..(figuratively of course) but as DeMartini said we should get rid of ALL of our state representitives Republicans and Democrats, Democrats and Republicans! And we should continue to call them daily and express our disapproval. To accept this invites more of the same! So take your "GO ALONG TO GET ALONG" and get the heck out..your free advice is worth exactly what we paid for it.

Power Line Plan Fizzles With Residents Board of Supervisors Hears Concerns on Energy Pipeline

This is the Bee's own Garth Stapley bringing you some of what happened at the Board of Supervisors Meeting.

 

Six hundred miles of high-voltage power lines would mar farms and country homes simply because that's cheaper than a less disruptive option, a Stanislaus County leader charged Tuesday.

A claim of pursuing renewable energy options "is just a front to sell power up and down California," Supervisor Bill O'Brien told energy officials, prompting vigorous applause from landowners upset at the proposal at a county Board of Supervisors meeting.

A partnership including the Modesto and Turlock irrigation districts wants to run power lines through several counties, including Stanislaus. O'Brien said the utilities could accomplish their goal without their own equipment but are too cheap to pay competitor Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to use its power lines.
