The print media often claims that its purpose is to provide information to the citizens. Does anyone believe this?
The Bee recently sued to obtain pension information on Stan County retired employees. Public employee are also citizens. Who agrees this information should be public information?
Since the print media has the ability to decide elections, sway peoples oppinions, and choose which facts it puts in a story or leaves out, should'nt they provide the salaries of all its staff and employees?
If the print media were concerned about quality factual reporting, all papers would be free. If the goal of papers is to inform the public of what is occuring, then all papers should be free. The cost of making papers would be paid for by Ads.

So why does it seem that football coaches have something against baseball? Mine and my son's first experience.
Submitted by wilderj on Mon, 2009-11-02 05:57.So why is it that football coaches downplay baseball?
This is my son's first year playing football. We have been a baseball family for seven years, so getting use to the football dynamics was quite a foreign thing. We figured if he was going to play in high school, we better get him some experience now, since he is in junior high school.
Sockpuppets, culpabilty , nonfeasance here on the hive??????? I have taken it upon myself to forward email to Dan Day
Submitted by wilderj on Sat, 2009-10-31 06:06.This is getting stupid and the hives failure to enforce their own rules is adding to the stupidity. Dan has said what the guidelines are and he has acknowledged that many are breaking the rules. The problem I have is; this is creating a very unstable environment by not stepping in. I am a logical person, but, I do not see the logic here, Whether it is for or against someone I support. I do not agree with the (perceivable?) stalking of Robert Stanford by jheaton and do believe he may have a great case after this election is over.
The crap sockpuppet and activist1 put about Joe Cataline with illegally obtained pictures is a violation of hive rules. Yes, it does make me reconsider my vote, but it is what it is, and I think Olsen hasn't done enough to keep her on the council. I believe Joe will best represent what is most important “OUR YOUTH”.
Thought I would let everyone know the recent developements on posting pictures on the hive
Submitted by wilderj on Wed, 2009-10-28 16:47.I wanted to let everyone one know what I stumbled across this afternoon. I wanted to make sure everyone knew so they would not be in violation of hive rules or worse.
Here's an simple, straightforward answer to almost all questions about posting photos and images: if you hold the copyright on the photo, you are free to post it. If you do not hold the copyright, you should not post it.
Staggering numbers, backers, in Modesto City Council race and Olsen tops the list. Why is that?
Submitted by wilderj on Sun, 2009-10-25 06:41.Incumbent Olsen leads in fund raising, with $46,355 this year.
The candidate with the second largest war chest after Olsen is District 4's Joe Muratore, a commercial real estate consultant. He's received $31,404 this year.
Perine has raised $15,041 in 2009. District 4 contender Robert Stanford has collected $1,564 during the same period.
