The Editor's Desk is the blog by three of the top editors at The Bee -- Mark Vasche, Dan Day and Dave Lyghtle -- in which they discuss a wide range of topics and media coverage of those topics. The blog is a good source of information about The Bee, modbee.com and other Bee publications and Web sites. It is designed as a vehicle for the editors to inform and interact with readers in an informal yet respectful manner. ExtraCredit: About this blog

This blog is a home for information on local schools, students, school staff, colleges, acronyms, test scores, financial aid and more that doesn’t fit in news stories, photos, or briefs. The forum is open to everyone and I encourage questions or feedback. The more conversations we have, the better. Please keep in mind that I’m new to blogging and will make mistakes, but I hope to learn as this blog evolves and improves.

Silver & Black Blog: Week 9 picks

Well, here's an easy prediction: The Raiders won't lose.

I know, I know. It's an elementary school barb. But what else is there left to say?

Tom Cable? Will he stay? Will he go? My thinking is: It won't matter.

OK. Enough of the defeatist attitude. The weekend is upon us.

I will say this about the 49ers, though.

The Raiders have won more recently than their cross-bay rivals. And while a game against Tennessee a few weeks ago looked like a walkcover, I'm sure you 49er fans are gripping a little.

Things were so great last month, but now you've got a three-game losing streak, and four days to prepare for a game with Chicago after the Titans game.

And ... in comes a Titans team coming off its first victory of the year and with a rejuvenated quarterback in Vince Young.

I can sense a little panic. By Sunday at 4:30 p.m., there could be a lot more panic if the 49ers don't, as they should, take care of business.

Editors Desk: We're back up

It seems our newfangled spam controls ran amok and blocked everyone from posting. I apologize. That shouldn't have happened.

You should have clear sailing through the weekend.

The Farm Beat: In Defense of Goats

Today’s oddball e-mail comes from a group called SuperGoat.org, which promotes goat milk. The occasion is the release of “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” a movie about U.S. military personnel trying mind-control techniques against potential enemies in the 1970s. This includes, yes, trying to kill goats by staring at them. The e-mail quotes a Sonoma County milk producer eager to set the record straight. “Even though the movie portrays goats as susceptible to mind control experiments, in real life it would be quite the opposite. Once you look into a goat’s eyes, it’s more likely they’ll have control over you,” said Jennifer Bice, Owner, Redwood Hill Farm & Creamery, home to 350 goats, and Founding Member of SuperGoat.org. “Goats are sweet, loving, intelligent creatures who contribute much to society.” The e-mail goes on to note that goat milk has many health benefits and that it is consumed in greater volume worldwide than cow milk.

Editors Desk: Spammers again

Hive bloggers: Unfortunately, we've had another outbreak of spam on the site and we've had to ratchet up our anti-spam controls. Please let me know if you experience any interference in trying to post. I hope the countermeasures will be in force only temporarily. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

ExtraCredit: More Comments about Modesto City Schools Board Race

I spent hours on the phone Wednesday interviewing people about the apparent outcome of the Modesto City Schools Board race, in which two incumbents and two challengers won seats.  Today's story is here.  Below are some more items that couldn't fit into the story:
