Can Obama win?
OK. History was made Tuesday night when Barack Obama became the "presumptive" presidential nominee of the Democrat Party -- the first African-American to do so. In fact, he's the first African-American to become the presidential standard-bearer of any major U.S. political party.
But can he seal the deal in November?
He will have to overcome much, including that 20 or so percent of white America that never will vote for an African-American. So far, the racists have managed to fly below the national media's political radar. Will that continue?
Of course, not every vote against Obama will be racially motivated.
But if he ultimately realizes victory, I'll wager it won't be the landslide one might expect, given the overwhelming repudiation of President Bush and his policies. Americans, according to the pollsters, are united like never before in their demand for change -- significant change.
Well, folks, change is here. It's time to put up or shut up.

your source to support your claim about 20 percent of whites being racist. While you are at it, find the number of black racist that are going to vote for BHO because he is black.
May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.

Can Obama win?
It's an educated guess, based upon various polling data and more than 30 years experience covering government and politics in three states: Iowa, Illinois and California. Consider this snipet from polling done on the recent Pennslvania primary:
The polls, conducted by Edison/Mitofsky for the five television networks and The Associated Press, asked voters if the race of the candidate was important: 19 percent said yes, while 80 percent said no.
Of those who said yes, 59 percent voted for Mrs. Clinton and 41 percent voted for Senator Barack Obama.
Also consider the 1982 California governor's contest, all the polls showed Tom Bradley, the African-American mayor of Los Angeles, holding a lead right up until Election Day, yet he was defeated. That's become known as the "Bradley Effect."
It is my belief that people, especially racists, tend to lie or otherwise hide their true feelings about a candidate's race.
Returning to my 20 percent statement, I've seen experts use anything from a low of 13 percent to a high of 30 percent when estimating the number of white Americans who never will vote for an African-American.
It's a crazy world...
when African-Americans who vote for African-Americans can be construed as "racists" and the (confirmed-through the Bradley Effect and THEIR OWN ADMISSION) "possibility" of white Americans not voting for African-Americans because they're black is rejected as racist speculation by racist people of color and/or "guilty" whites. You gotta hand it to the racists for playing the game so well: nowadays, the real racists are calling the subjects of their disdain "racists" and the majority of the country is eating it up... Talk about turning the tables! It's entirely possible now for a person of color with legitimate gripes against racism in society to be branded a racist. They just have to say it enough times (send out enough e-mails with the gloss of authority to them) and it becomes true. Witness how Jesse Jackson is now a racist (a "race hustler, to use language the mighty Savage Nation or Fox News watchers can understand) for decrying white racism (which, of course, does NOT exist). Michelle Obama is a racist for presenting others' attitudes regarding the perception of (this non-existent) white racism in her dissertation. Black Liberation Theology-which I'm sure helped more than a few African-Americans improve their lives- is now "racist". Hyphenized-Americans are now "racists". Minority scholarships (for people who are STILL minorities) are now "racist". The very perception of racism by people of color is now racist in and of itself and the people levelling this widely espoused allegation still pretend to be part of an oppressed minority- even though the vast majority of white people in the country have evidently accepted the myth.
Can Obama win? I certainly hope so, but if the racists continue to fan the flames under the candidate with their innuendo and weird speculation (secret Muslim, AFRICAN, "reverse-racist", closet smoker/socialist/revolutionary, etc.), I fear the aforementioned majority will succeed in impeding it.
They've demonstrated the necessary genius to flip the dynamic around enough to turn victims into perpetrators; what's to stop them from derailing a simple election?
If this process gets ugly, blame them.
I'm A Speciesist!
I must be true to myself and Hive members. It's true, I'm a Speciesist. Barak Obama is a human being and a humanitarian. I am, although conceivably unreasonably inclined by deep rooted familial conditioning to favor a human being for the office of President.
Although, my position may be prejudicial, when it's considered I have made my choice based on variables yet to be proven as fact. I know for a fact, Obama is human. It has yet to be determined, that McCain and Clinton are human beings.

Maybe we need to consider the possibility of a canine for President.
