The End Of My New Beginning
Friday I leave and won't be home for three weeks. But the weird thing is, this is home now. The way I see it, I'm going to California for three weeks, not going home. I've become so familiar with this city and its people that I can't call it anything but home.
College is everything people tell you it will be, and then so much more. The friends you make, its as if you've known them your entire life. I think of my closest friends here and wonder how I went so long without knowing them. I eat with them, study with them, go out with them, crash in their rooms when I lock myself out of my room. I can't imagine being home and not having the luxury or texting them and asking if they want to go grab some shitty college food. You really do make he most amazing connections here. It's ridiculous.
I'm going to miss my room. These four walls, adorned with photos of friends, a California flag (compliments of Sarah and our friend Anna for my birthday), various magazine cutouts of funny sayings and gorgeous men, have become my sanctuary. I live here, eat here, sometimes study here. It's my room (granted soooo many kids before me have felt the same, but right now, it's mine). I can't wait to snuggle in my old bed and use my bathroom, but I haven't been there in so long.
I can't believe when I return it will be my second semester of college. Time truly does move too fast. Before I know it, I will be returning for the summer and then will be a seasoned college vet. It's a lot to think about right now, seeing as how my brain is consumed with thoughts of ancient Greek culture for my honors english term paper and the simplex method for my finite math final.
I'm ready for a break but not ready to leave.
