Hello and Happy Valentine's Day from City Hall. There are a bunch of cops here tonight; perhaps they are anticipating a riot?
Actually, it's for the swearing-in ceremony for Police Chief Rob Jackson. Lots of Turlock PD officers here, as well as former colleagues from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. Inlcuding the sheriff himself, Adam Christianson. And we're overrun with chiefs. Tracy Police Chief Gary Hampton, formerly Turlock's chief. Oakdale Police Chief Marty West. And now-former Interim Turlock Police Chief Dave Young. And, of course, former Modesto Police Chief Roy Wasden, now Turlock's city manager. (Chief Jackson inadvertently referred to Mr. Wasden as "Chief". Then he said, "Oh, wait, I'm the chief, right?"
He is indeed, having just taken the oath of office.

The chief is sexy

pguerra Says:

This from Mr. Young, who just got a nice proclamation from the city for serving as interim chief. He was speaking on behalf of Chief Jackson's wife, Melinda, who was responding to a quote from Mayor John Lazar in the Bee story announcing her husband's selection. Mr. Lazar said, "We don't need sexy - we need someone with a can-do attitude." Said Mr. Young: "Melinda wants everyone to know that Rob is sexy."

A new agency that looks like the old one

pguerra Says:

The council unanimously passed a resolution naming itself as the successor agency to the redevelopment agency. Gov. Brown wiped out RDAs as part of a move to fill the state budget gap.

A shout-out to the north, and another swearing-in

pguerra Says:

As he concluded the meeting, Mr. Lazar offered congratulations to new Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh, also sworn in this evening.
The council has adjourned to closed session to discuss negotiations with its labor groups.
Good night.
