Gay marriage: Did I get your attention?

I have heard ideas by a few with similar thoughts to my own on this subject, but not many. I think that the government should not differentiate between married or unmarried at all. That being said, I do believe that the relationship of marriage has always been between a man and a woman (or women). The english language is constantly changing, so the word marriage is often used in other ways, and I don't really care if two people of the same gender want to engage in a relationship and call it a "marriage". It seems to me that the extremes of pro or anti-gay marriage are loud, but do not give compelling arguments to support their position regarding law-making.

I agree
I don't think the government should be issuing a 'license' for marriage. Instead, a government should be issuing a 'certificate' for a contractual agreement between consenting adults to share their property and intermingle their financial assets.
If the government got out of the 'marriage' business then those people who view marriage as a Sacrament to be celebrated only between a man, a woman and God could take their certificate to their respective priest, rabbi, iman, minister or shaman and receive that Sacrament.
And the government can keep its nose out of religious affairs.
