ExtraCredit: California vs. Oregon College Admissions

Interesting strategy: In light of drastic state budget cuts in education spending, California's community colleges, CSU's and UC's have slashed the number of students they're admitting.  For example locally, Modesto Junior College has eliminated tons of classes and CSU Stanislaus will no longer admit students during the spring semester.

That leaves thousands of students without a college to attend, so the kind people at some Oregon universities have opened their arms to the displaced Californians.  Oregon campuses along the border with California, have been recruiting California students.  For example, officials said Southern Oregon University on the border in Ashland has seen 22 percent more California students than last year.  And to take advantage of California's woes, SOU officials plan on charging California students the same in-state, cheaper tuition and housing that Oregon residents enjoy.

Do you think anyone from Modesto would take advantage of this and spend a few years in Oregon?

Very Interesting!

My youngest is working towards transferring to a 4-year institution.  I just forwarded this information to her.  Why not take advantage and Ashland is a beautiful community!
