Redemptive Suffering - saying goodbye to Grandpa Doug
Tonight, at 5:0pm, we said good bye to Grandpa Doug.
A wonderful man, Doug married into the family a little over 10 years ago. He took one look at the two nephews and the niece and gladly accepted the role as 'Grandpa'.
Doug took them hiking, swimming and camping. Doug helped raise them. He took the niece to 'train dolphins' at Marine World - a highlight of her life (so far). Tonight, when I answered the phone it was her, sobbing her 8 year old heart out because Grandpa Doug has died.
Grandpa Doug ran. He ran marathons and half marathons, 10ks and 5 ks and every k in between. Doug was always trying to talk me into running as exercise. I can't (I have two titanium knees and I am not supposed to do things like jog and run) but more importantly, I won't - unless something is chasing me. He would laugh, and remind me that as a runner he could eat all the carbs he wanted. Maybe so, but runners always look (to me) like they need a good meal.
Grandpa Doug is a good man. We will miss him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace.
amen.

LSK49rs, I am so sorry to hear this
I am so sorry you have lost two family members so close together. I do believe Doug has left our world to keep a watchful eye on chase. I know this may be of little comfort, but I believe they are together and just may be running on the clouds.
My sincere condolences LSK
Doug was both a runner and a caring free spirit by nature, so we can be quite sure, that it's on heaven's high road where he now hits his "sweet spot"
Rest in peace Granpa Doug
All Souls Day
Grandpa Doug sure knew how to time his exit well....may God grant him eternal rest and may perpetual light shine upon him. May you all feel the loving arms of Christ surround you, LSK and your family. I love you.
thank you all so much
LSK49ERs
My sincere prayers and thought go with a man whom you have described as a marvelous man. COL said it best, may God accept this man who meant so much to you and family into His loving arms we all hope for, and a man whom if in your life was only the better, for that 10 years of association and the class you represent so well here in your own way the way of Catholicism.
thank you, Joe
