Editors Desk: Conduct unbecoming on The Hive
In recent days there has been a spate of conduct on The Hive that flagrantly violates this site's community guidelines. You can read the full text at that link, but here are a couple of highlights on point:
- Modbee.com encourages a free and open exchange of ideas in a climate of mutual respect.
-(Y)ou may not post content that is libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, that violates a third party's right to privacy, that otherwise violates any applicable local, state, national or international law, or that is otherwise inappropriate.
This eruption of incivility has resulted in a flurry of e-mails and phone calls to Bee editors from Hive bloggers pointing fingers at other bloggers. We have done our best to investigate these complaints and take appropriate measures in response, if warranted.
With so many egregious examples of misconduct, on Saturday morning we issued a warning to all users that further conduct of this nature would result in suspensions. Not long after that, the attacks continued and we began deactivating several accounts and removed multiple posts and comments. That review will continue indefnitely.
Each of the accounts suspended for first offenses against our policy will be unavailable until next Monday. Those accounts in which the offender has previously been suspended will sit out for a month.
We know or suspect some users have created second or even third accounts to continue blogging, flouting the suspension of the primary account. We are rooting out such accounts as we find them.
We are cracking down on a number of user names that are antagonistic or off-color. Those accounts will also be banned, and those users will be given an opportunity to create new accounts.
Finally, a word about privacy. Since the inception of The Hive, we have allowed users to blog anonymously if they so choose. The Bee takes all reasonable steps to guard the identities of those who wish to remain anonymous, although if the identity is common knowledge we are powerless. We ask that all users respect the wishes of other bloggers who wish to remain anonymous. The account of anyone disclosing the name of any other user who wishes to keep his or her identity secret will be suspended.

I have been an observer for over 2 months. One comment that I would like to make is that bloggers with differing views should stick to their own blogs or create a blog in response to a blog they may disagree with. Even though this is a public forum, some people should not interact with certain bloggers. I have witnessed bloggers who post to certain blogs for no other reason than to create problems. I believe some of the bloggers who are part of the suspensions were and still are, unfairly targeted by others. This is still no excuse for breaking the rules set forth by The Modesto Bee.
I guess it is time to get back on the sidelines and continue to watch the Hive's Games!

Simply Amazing....
Looked for the first time
Enjoyed your photography very much. I really admire artists who can see what we cannot. I look at trees and the sky everyday, yet, my camera sees the same old thing, not something spectacular.
I also wanted to simply note that this is one of my favorite times of year. Every evening the Canadian Geese cross my town and over my roof on their way to the farm lands in the east. I look forward to their trek each night.

Accounts with bogus registration information
As part of our investigation of abusive users, we've discovered a number of accounts created with falsified information. Those accounts are being removed.

Mr. Day....I like what I read in your blog.
These are issues I have been concerned about for some time.
I am glad you are taking action...but do question your sincerity on the subject.
I have on more than one occasion...posted a complaint to you or Mr. Lyghtle when Activist1 has attacked screen names.....called sreen names out as to their real identities'....and used language that violated your community guidelines.
In reading over the offending posts....you did not see anything posted that made you think....enough is enough Activist1?
I believe you undermine both your stance and credibility by allowing Activist1 to remain active on the Hive.
I also have concerns about a post by Mr. Lyghtle that I felt put a screen names identity (TS) at risk.
I do appreciate the opportunity to express my sincere thoughts...I hope you will take them into consideration.

You are doing the best you can Dan but let's face it, Burns is correct!! Activist has submitted some vile blogs and posts. She is the twin of Heaton when it comes to that sort of behavior so I am just as stumped as alot of the fellow Hivers are that this individual is still not suspended!!
Nothing personal Activist but you know what I speak is the truth. If you were any friend of Heaton's like you claim to be, I would think some loyalty would be in order. How can you do that? by removing yourself from this site during his duration of his suspension. Misery loves company and I'm sure he is feeling pretty lonely and abandoned by now.

You are just supporting the same activity as before as continuing the division which has torn the hive, by suggesting Jheaton not continuing serving his sentence and being allowed to create a sock pupppet.
Bike rack was banned, and he allegedly created a sock puppet which did not call names or insults and again he was removed.
How much time does anyone of have before we are all suspended? And I agree with Burnsgracie and Lachica
