County's finest livestock to be sold at Stanislaus County Fair

There was excitement in the crowd, the animals were all on their best behavior, and the auctioneer was speaking faster than the speed of light at last year’s Annual Replacement Heifer Sale at the Stanislaus County Fair.  Last year was my first experience at the auction. I had tagged along with my friend and her family, who owns a dairy in Modesto to see for myself what her family had talked about so often. Once there, the anticipation of the event was so apparent that I could almost feel the tempo of my blood start to pump faster.  We had barely sat down to get comfortable when my friend’s dad started to bid.  And what seemed like a blink of an eye, he became an owner of a new heifer!  I can’t wait to be a part of the excitement at this year’s Annual Replacement Heifer Sale.    

Like my friend’s dad, all local bidders will have the chance to take home some of the finest livestock in the Central Valley at the Stanislaus County Fair’s 42^nd Annual Replacement Heifer Sale on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, and the 45^th Annual Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday, Aug. 8. The fairgrounds are located at 900 N. Broadway in Turlock.

Buyers may pre-register for the sale and auction at the Fair’s Exhibit Office, in the Costco Commercial Exhibits Building, until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7.

Catalogs for the 2009 Replacement Heifer Sale are available now through Aug. 7 in the Fair’s Livestock Office. The Livestock Office is located at the fairgrounds, near the Soderquist Road entrance. The catalogs are sponsored by Yosemite Farm Credit.

Catalogs for the Junior Livestock Auction will be available on the morning of the auction and will be distributed during bidder registration and check-in.

With over 1,800 4-H and FFA animals entered in the 2009 Stanislaus County Fair, this year’s sale and auction are sure to produce an impressive roster of livestock.
