After Deadline: City could do away with runoff elections
The Modesto City Council next week is set to decide on whether to ask voters if Modesto should eliminate runoff races for local elections.
Modesto has had a number of problems with runoffs, largely because of an exceedingly tight timeline betweem the November election and the December runoff.
In 2001, a judge canceled a runoff election because up to 10,000 voters didn't get ballots. The city made up the runoff in March 2002.
In 2005, the city invalidated another runoff when it realized that challenger Kristin Olsen won more than 50 percent of the vote against incumbent Denny Jackman. Initiatlly, it looked like Olsen came in just under that threshold because County Clerk Lee Lundrigan included ballots that should have been disqualified in her tally.

If on the November ballot we decide to do away with run off elections, does that mean that this could affect the november election and show a winner instead of a runoff?
No
It would take effect in 2011.
Comment on Mrs. Olson
Modesto likes to brag of of it's Christian virtues. They are hypocrits. Mrs Olson opted within this counsel a "beautification" of Pelandale, ther is no area to beautify except Big Valley Grace Community Church. We blightly set back and not comment. She is a part of the Protestant American Christian Evangelical Movemnet which has an antithesis to Catholicism.
Her ignorance tops both Mr Marsh and the clown Ridenour our former ignorant Chief of Police.
Mr Wilson, Senior Assitant City Attorney was asked to inititiate a Police Misconduct investigation as the US Attorney agreed that 55 assaults within the school, 39 Police reports on vandalism and asaaults againt minor children. theft of four cars, and loss of four rsidences was under the auspices of one Tim Atchley and carried out by his "command presences starting August 27, 1996, He is a punk and men from the 50's will understand that word.
That is the "Christian" ethic we have in this abject Political sysytem we live effected under all over money, $385,00 all lost. I despise those mentioned and many local attorney's, they have, as my namesake "no shame".
The Officers from the MPD Hemosa and Inderbitzen were "outed" by the States Attorney Gneral for their stupidity and inept consuct on a Financial Crimes Investugation, Christian? This city supports this Movement and does nothing for the Catholioc Church. They should be summarily dismissed and avoided as they are idioits.' resulting in a corrupt political system and fiscal mess we are all facing.
It's time WE all awaken to this problem, you are either a moral citizen or not, stand up and be heard.

Well....the letter I have on my desk sure looks like a campaign is going on.
The letter begins with DEAR FRIEND,....and ends...SINCERELY, SHERIFF ADAM CHRISTIANSON.
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TODAY TO SEND THE ENCLOSED ENVELOPE PLEDGING YOUR SUPPORT AND ENDORSEMENT FOR MY RE-ELECTION.
Does this show you that there is serious campaigning going on for the 2010 Sheriff's election?
It certainly looks like it is to me.
There is a badge with Friends of the Sheriff Stanislaus County on the letter..but the envelope goes to Re-Elect Sheriff Adam Christianson 2010.
I am sure he has the numbers to back it up...but...his statement....I'M PLEASED TO REPORT OUR CRIMES RATES IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF STANISLAUS COUNTY ARE THE LOWEST IN NEARLY TWO DECADES...leaves me wondering exactly what numbers he is looking at.
I do want to remind you that there is a qualified candidate to run against Christianson...Captain Robert Jackson!
