After Deadline: What's the verdict on the lasers?

Modesto's 4th of July celebrations certainly drew out lots of people yesterday, from the 5,000+ who went to the parade in the morning to the big crowd in Enslen Park for the Modesto Jaycees' laser show.

The mood was great with people curious about what they'd see. Illegal fireworks soared over the park a few times. And that turnout was stellar.

Way to go Jaycees, for bringing people together from the morning to the night.

Now, about those lasers ... What'd you think?

I saw quite a few people pack up their blankets and leave by the third song with the lasers shooting patriotic images at the projector screen. I also heard a few oohs and ahhs.

Your impressions?

I thought it would be cool.

Lazar light shows are usually awesome. I stayed home, and watched better fireworks than they had at the fairgrounds in Turlock, I know this to be true because I could see the fireworks from the fairgrounds. They paled in comparison to the illegal fireworks being shot into the air around here.

Head scratcher

I don't know. I just spoke with a few others who went to the light show. They liked the atmosphere in the park, but werent' fans of the lasers.

Hmmmm

Well, I wasn't big on the show either, but my friends' kids loved it.  I think for the adults, the atmosphere was great, and for the kids, the lazer light show was great.  Personally, the lazer show could have been better.  But hey, it's their first year, and I thank the City and the Jaycees for putting it on.

Good time all around.  Oh except for the drunk bum in front of yes yelling stay clean and sober.  She was finally taken away by the Police.

I'd like to lobby

I'd like to lobby for a new national Independence Day soundtrack. Sure, the National Anthem and God Bless America should absolutely rule the day. But I move that it's time to scrap the bad songs that are included in the day just because they say the word "America." We're better than that as a people.

Do you like American music? I like American music, too.

and dont forget ..the police

and dont forget ..the police and fire helped with raising the money for the jaycees show. the basketball game against fire and police in oct . the money is given to the jaycees..for the forth of july.

They did

And I'm sure there's going to be more of that sort of fundraiser as the Junion Chamber tries to make the celebration self sufficient.
