9 cops out of a job today

9 cops out of a job today - Nine Modesto police officers are losing their jobs today because the city and their union were not able to negotiate wage concessions that could have saved their positions. [Local Modesto News]

I feel sorry for these officers and their families. The vast majority of law enforcement officers are honest, hard working folks doing a tough job that most people would not do. God bless and good luck to them all.

Everyone likes L/E except the crooks and robbers

They should have done what President Obama suggested in his inauguration speech and helped each other out through these tough economic times. They had a choice and could have done that by spreading the money issue dilemma amongst each other. But no, each one took care of themselves and let the others hang. Teamwork at it's worst.

I support the Council Members for their decision on this issue.

I think Obama had a good idea there, don't you. Prayer as you say you do is all good. But do you feel sorry enough for these officers to start a money fund to help them and their family's get by. And lordly-my, what if we did not have what is called unemployment benefits. Where would they be then JHeaton?

Just a little more to the point here in rhetoric.

Question

Do we still consider them police officers, I remember when Deputy Prescott was killed we were told "he's not a deputy anymore, so he doesn't have the title as a deputy" so I ask this question are these 9 officers still called police officers ?

If the officers are just "laid off" I think they are still

Police Officers.

Do they still get benefits like paid family health insurance and vacation/holiday pay while laid off? Does anyone know? I sure hope they get something.

I'm seriously telling you it was

because of the union. It didn't appear that they were willing to negotiate at all. I sincerely hope the Union will take a look at how they do business in the future.

Hey

HM. They don't get any employment benefits because they're unemployed as of today. What they will get are severence checks and cashouts of their unused vacation time.

I don't know if the union pays for their cobra

but I doubt it.  After all if everyone  had skipped the raise their buddies in blue would still be working.

Nobody wants fewer Cops on the streets...except the people who voted against giving back the raises.

Now who would that be?

Isn't there going to be money available

to hire 13?
