Modesto loves the blues

Brad Kava, an organizer of the Santa Cruz Blues Festival scheduled this weekend reports that Modesto is buying the second most tickets, after Santa Cruz.

Apparently, we Modestans really love the blues and Santa Cruz.

"The whole Central Valley is buying tickets, including Merced, Fresno and Sacramento," Kava said in an email. "I'm impressed with the numbers and realize we wouldn't survive without them, so a big thanks!"

The festival runs 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Aptos Village Park, 100 Aptos Creek Road. Performers include BB King, Joe Cocker, Keb Mo and Jackie Greene.

There's no parking there so ticket holders are urged to park at nearby Cabrillo College and take a shuttle. General admission tickets are $60 for adults an $25 for kids each day or $100 and $40 for a two-day pass. Check out www.santacruzbluesfestival.com for more details.

but we cannot support a blues festival here???

I don't understand it. Our own blues festival faltered..what's up with that?

Blues Fesitval

My guess is there are two reasons we cannot support the Blues Festival here......

1.  It's Santa Cruz, and let's face it, Santa Cruz is nicer than Modesto.  Especially on a holiday weekend where they attract travelers, etc.

2.  The acts.....B.B. King, Joe Cocker, etc.  I am sure if our Blues Festival had acts like that.....more people would come.

good point, Markniskanen

you can't get past the beauty of Santa Cruz as a draw, that is for SURE..

More Blues Coming This Fall

FYI, the Gallo Center has two great blues concerts coming this fall -- can't announce artists just yet, but they will both be great.  Keep a look out for these; one in September, the other in October (they'll be available in a subscription package for extra savings for Blues lovers).

The Blues Concert the Center did right after opening that included Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, North Mississippi Allstars and Joe Krown was very well received -- so maybe the Center is part of the answer, great concert venue with great artists...

What ever happened to Ironong Board Slim and the Blues Review

They were a local group that got together for some mighty hot blues. They had a special guest female singer that could bring the roof down.

Slim as I recall used to run CD exchange on McHenry.

BLUES CONCERTS

You are right - I LOVED that concert. Thank you for the heads up. You may be right - the Center may be the answer for a great Blues Weekend....

The Center is too darn expensive for most people.

Surely there's another venue that is more affordable for most of us.

Gallo Center Fall Shows...

Here's the scoop on the Gallo Center shows this fall:

On September 10th, the original "blues brothers" take the stage -- Barry Goldberg, Nick “The Greek” Gravenites, Harvey “The Snake” Mandel, and Charlie Musselwhite.  Can't beat this line-up, and prices are just $19-$43 -- seems reasonable to me.

The other show is a little off the beaten path: Joan Osborne, The Holmes Brothers and Paul Thorn.  Same basic price range.  Should be a great night.

Interesting Joan Osborne

I do love her music but does Modesto know her music?

My right hand man

Lets get naked

What if God was like one of us (which was a number one hit)

This will be interesting to see what kind of crowd this brings in, for such a conservative town.

CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE!!!!

Oh I am in BLUES HEAVEN
