Tea party reports anyone?
Submitted by Bee_Opinion on Wed, 2009-04-15 09:32.
If you are attending or have attended a tea party in the Modesto area, please feel free to post what's going on -- numbers of people, signs, etc.
I'll check out the tea party at Tenth Street Plaza a little later and file my thoughts.

Good job JHeaton....
I look forward to that - I am not really going to be able to attend today, but I would be very interested in your thoughts in particular, John regarding the festivities today and their intended message.

I don't care.
I'm abstaining from this nonsensical fake outrage today.
Don't feel like seeing a bunch of grown men tea-bagging each other in the streets.

Nice....
I'm looking forward to your pics J!
Agreed Rich P
Shocker
Ricardo going with perverse jokes. And he teaches children? I hope the parents keep close tabs.

Huh?
Don't get it.
Modesto's tea party
I stopped by about 12:30 and there looked to be 300 people or so. I see our reporter later estimated a crowd of 400. People were standing and milling around so a firm count was impossible.
Quite a few people carried American flags or signs reflecting their frustration with taxes, the bailouts and so forth. One speaker suggested this could be the day that changed America. I doubt it unless people get informed, stay informed and stay involved, even so far as running for public office.

The good of all of this is people are getting involved
I did wonder how many people showing up to the Tea Party's are out of work? Probably a lot. I have a feeling when this economy gets going these same people will like what is happening. But it will take time for us citizens to trust our government once again. Haven't been to kind to us, for sure. This dilemma we are in won't resolve itself for quite some time. It took a long time to get in the pit we are in. And it's not just America having the problem, it's global. In that we are interdependent with each other, all of us have to get going. Especially America, as we are so dependent as evidenced by our huge trade imbalance. And that causes many ancillary problems aside from economic.
Might sound odd, but personally I think we should all pay more taxes right now to keep our schools, local, state offices and essential services such as police/fire going full strength.
Furloughs/layoffs, just put people in the unemployment line, so we pay either way.
But who would do that except me. lol.
huh?
first they are whiners getting together - complete with insulting pictures that indicate crying and rubbing their eyes free of crocodile tears - and now they are 'people getting involved'?

Judy - how many speakers were at the event?
I was there!
The "speakers" I heard simply spouted off most of the memes I heard on talk radio (probably because one of them is actually a talk radio host). They could've been anyone in here, in that regard. I couldn't hear the names as the crowd was too rowdy (just kidding, didn't really care), but I did sense that people enjoyed being in the company of other fellow viewers/listeners of the certain anti-government media who call their audiences "Nations", if you know what I mean. I don't like to carouse with Rightwing extremists and self-proclaimed proudly anti-government sympathizers (or with zealots in general, for that matter), so I moved on.
Not that it matters and not that I care, but a lot of people there looked like Social Security and/or Medicare and/or welfare recipients, God love 'em. I wonder how many of them went home last night and burnt up their Socialism checks? Fake outrage gave lots of people something to do on a lovely spring afternoon. Now, back to work.

Oh come on Rich
If it would have been anyone but conservatives... lol..
A little biased are you?

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
Through policy, right wind conservatives grow the Drug Cartel
expanding in our great Country. The sad part is they know it, but are benefiting so much monetarily, will not stop the dilemma.
Behind this Tea Party movement is the Conservative right wingers, if one will follow the trail of blood it's fact to see.
I knew from reading, many of the participants were out of work or receiving Socialism benefits (as Simple Jack call them).
It is good for people to get together during these hard times and it's a way to keep people out of trouble, at least for one day. As things get tougher, the drug cartel will pick up and expand with new members. Hard times bring on deviance..... for survival if nothing else.
History proves that out.
Yes, God love these people who are trying in their own way to make things better too.
Larry King interviewed some folks...
... and although I rarely pay any attention to Donald Trump, I did agree with one thing he said about taxes: It's not that folks don't want to pay taxes. The problem is the irresponible way governement has handled our money and now they are taking more money from us.
I like these "tea parties" because it gives EVERYONE the opportunity to get involved. I agree with Judy that people need to get involved and STAY involved.
It does not take a rocket scientist to know that trillions of dollars of debt is absolutely unacceptable and foolish in every way!!! No, I don't say this because I want the present adminstration to fail. I say this because debt is never a good thing and trillions of dollars in debt is going to enslave our country to her debtors for generations. Debt means someone else owns what you pretend you own. What we see happening to families across the country will happen on a national level if major changes are not made soon. Trillions of dollars in debt is not the answer and it is very interesting to listen to the alternate solutions being offered by some of those speaking at the tea parties.
Take the time to listen before judging the effort as extremism. There are some common sense options being presented and it would do our government good to consider them before drowning us debt to the point we never recover and the United States of America becomes so weak she is unrecognizable.
how many speakers?
They were scattered through the day and I was only there for 20 or 30 minutes and was near the back of the crowd. The radio talk show how Rusty Humphries started speaking while I was there. I'm guessing Dave Diamond spoke earlier; he was being interviewed by a TV crew.
There were a few moms pushing strollers but it was a generally older crowd, at least while I was there.
Judy
"conservatives for free trade"
The Tea Party web page stated that if you are "a conservative who believes in Free Trade" you should attend the rally. Does anyone know if any of the speakers talked about "Free-Trade"? I am just wondering what they said about that if anything, and what their plan is? Anyway..Thanks Glendle
