Rubber_Side_Down: a triumphant sprint
Ummm...I don't have pictures to post of last Saturday's Triumph Demo Day, because both my digital cameras were on loan. One was at work chronicling opening day at Oakdale's t-ball leagues, and the other is seeing duty in a kindergarten classroom. Priorities, I guess...
I did however, consume two delicious polish dogs and ride a Triumph Sprint ST at the Cycle Specialties event.
The Sprint is a sport touring bike, with the emphasis on sport. With a three cylinder, one-liter motor, it's way faster than my current ride, revs quickly and makes really nice sounds. The only thing stopping me from trading in is the $12,000 price tag, and the fact that I don't have any money. Details...
The ergonomics were a little aggressive for my aging body, as well. The slight forward lean put too much of my considerable weight on my wrists.
The new Triumph Thunderbird was on display as well. It is an attempt to capture some of the Harley/metric cruiser crowd. It is a huge bike, with a big parallel twin instead of a V-twin motor, giving a Triumph flavor.
Still, it seems a bit out of character for Triumph, which mostly makes sports, touring and hooligan bikes, with a line of nostalgia models as well. I think of Triumphs as being relatively light, good handling machines that buck the trends followed by other major manufacturers.
But then, they also make the Rocket III, an elephant of a bike with a 2.3 liter, three cylinder motor. Different, to be sure, but porky.
I suppose I'm really a Bonneville guy - light weight, retro styling (the way motorcycles are supposed to look, dang nabit) modest power, upright riding position.
But I'm not quite ready for a Buick.

No photos?
Don't do that again! We need the photos. I do anyway. But, our very best thoughts to the T-ball players and the kindergarteners. Maybe one of them can cough up a camera next time.
