Bakersfield, Day 2 (Semifinals and consolation fifth round)

We're back at Rabobank after a lengthy Friday. Semifinalists and consolation wrestlers are warming up and only six mats remain after 10 from yesterday. There are a couple of us here on press row. Most of us are yawning, this is very early for a sportswriter!
We've got consolation fifth round matches set to go in about 25 minutes. These matches are huge, because the winner of these matches wins a coveted state medal. I'm going to try to keep up woth as many matches as I can, but the biggies are:
103: Brandon Egleston (Turlock) vs. Ty Stevenson (McKinleyville)
103: Jake Congleton (Beyer) vs. Matt Correa (Righetti)
125: David Ferry (Central Catholic) vs. Chris Calcagno (Clovis North)
125: Shane Tate (Oakdale) vs. Daniel Garibaldo (Cathedral City)
171: Ryan Mackey (Ripon) vs. Conor Trombetta (Napa)
215: Marco Delgado (Turlock) vs. William Knowles (Calvary Chapel)
215: Giovanni Sani (Central Catholic) vs. Brian Schoene (Bakersfield)
285: Matt Galas (Central Catholic) vs. Lefi Letuligasenoa (Elk Grove)
I will definitely be watching for other Sac-Joaquin Section wrestlers, but let me know if there is somebody else you're looking for.
And they just announced "first call" for the consolation 103 pounders.
Consolation 5th round set to go at 9 a.m.
SEMIFINALS set to go at 9:30 a.m. and they'll continue on this thread.

Just saw Oliver Congleton of
Just saw Oliver Congleton of Beyer and Matt Galton of Downey walk in together. They're sitting in the same section, presumably to root for Oliver's brother Jake, who is warming up on mat 5. Kind of neat to see a couple of kids who had some really fierce matches against each other this year hanging out together.
And they're off!
And they're off! Congleton-Correa straight ahead, Egleston-Stevenson in the middle of the floor.
Correa takedown early and he's working a cradle. He's getting back points. Period over, it's Correa up 5-0.

Did you get to talk with Delgado of G Davis?
About not making weight? A real tragedy.

Any idea where they are? Top 20? Thanks Will!
Turlock Team Score
Turlock is 19th with 30.5
Nope, just traded messages
Nope, just traded messages with his coach. There were a handful of wrestlers who didn't make weight.
A guy up here on press row was telling me that part of the reason Klingsheim of Liberty went from 125s to 119s was so it would give another guy - their current 125 pounder - a better chance at going to state. Then they both made it and the 125 guy didn't make weight.
Just saw Hurtado of Sheldon pin a Poway kid at 112s, so he's getting a medal. And Poway loses, and the entire arena cheers.
Briggs
Please let me know how Jake Briggs - Bella Vista does this round

TJohnson reversed and he's down 2-0. And he just lost.
Any Vacaville fans out there? Can somebody tell me why one of the two center mats is the mat for the Vaca Pena Panthers? I looked up Vaca Pena and it appears to be a middle school in Vacaville. You'd think they'd use mats from the Bakersfield schools.
The other center mat is El Dorado, which I believe is also out of the Central Section.
Nalan Ludwig from Elk Grove
Nalan Ludwig from Elk Grove going in front of me. He's 0-0 in the 2nd. And Stafford from Del Oro down 2-0 on the next mat.

Sometimes when schools buy mats, they get a discount if they let them use them at a big tournament. They save shipping because the school brings them home after the tournament.
