pointafter_Stanislaus women hoop update

At noon on Christmas Eve, the Cal State Stanislaus women’s basketball team was hanging out at the Anchorage International Airport. Stuck in Alaska three extra days due to bad weather that canceled Sunday’s connecting flight in Seattle, the Warriors had an early morning flight Wednesday that would have gotten them back to Northern California late in the afternoon. With the flight to Seattle delayed, the Stanislaus contingent would miss its flight out of Seattle.

Coach Sharon Turner-Dean recruited booking agents to help the team find a way to get home to their families for Christmas. One airline ticketing agent found a flight with two seats, which players Christin Gowan and Jasmine Carter were scheduled to take. That flight was to arrive in San Francisco, where Gowan’s parents could pick the young women up and take Carter home to Tracy on their way home to Manteca.

Another flight had eight seats open and would arrive in Oakland. The remaining nine Stanislaus members were to travel on a flight into Sacramento. The cost of the re-arranging was over $2,000. Rides from various parents were lined up and another $500 needed to be put toward renting a van in Sacramento for the drive to Turlock. One bright spot was two tickets were able to be refunded - ones that were purchased and not used by redshirt players. As far as how Stanislaus is going to pay for everything, Turner-Dean was able to joke that they’d have to rob kids’ milk money to cover it all. The group would get home later than expected, but the effort was made to get them home sometime Christmas Day. Hopefully we’ll find out that happened for everyone.
