Central got in trouble when 6-9 junior center John Fenton went to the bench with 2 fouls midwauy through the first quarter, and that corresponded pretty closely with Capital bringing in husky 6-5 power forward Nifae Lealao. With Fenton out and the widebody Lealao inside, the Raiders were denied entry into the key and began shooting from the perimeter.
Capital went on an 11-0 run after Fenton went to the bench, though CC junior Jake Bland hit a 16-footer late in the period to bring CC with 20-10 at the end of the period. Capital is tall and long-armed, and passes well on the perimeter -- often ending with the ball in the hands of 6-6 senior Matt Donlan, the team's top perimeter shooter.
Rich is busy actually covering this game, notes and all, so Brian VanderBeek is handling the live-blogging of the Turlock Christian-Brookside Christian Girls D5 final from Power Balance Pavilion.
Maybe 500 people here at tipoff, and starters have been introduced. Three-person officiating crew, and don't get either Rich or me started on the wastefulness of that little rule.
About to tip ...
Eleven No. 1 seeds have made the finals ... There are 6 #2 seeds, three #3, one #4, one #6 and two #7s ...
