Unseen's Corner

Being the bad guys is nothing new for video games. But recently a controversy has arisen with the approaching game in the Medal of Honor series. Fox news had a segment recently about Electronic Art's upcoming game. In Medal of Honor players will get to play as the Taliban in multiplayer game modes. This controversy is timely since I just posted about whether or not video games are art; this controversy really is at the heart of that issue.

Watch the segment here.

There's a lot of good interviews and articles out there, some with veterans, and some with EA people. I highly suggest some research into it.

Well day two in a row I'm back. This time with another controversy that plagues the gaming industry. I love stuff like this, gaming news is some of the most interesting stuff out there. While this specific controversy has been going on for months, we haven't been posting in all that time either. So, here I am. I'm going to talk about Activision. Activision is one of those AAA-platinum game publishers like Electronic Arts or Ubisoft. They are responsible for such mammoth series like Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and Guitar Hero (to name a few). In addition, they have a reputation of running these series into the ground well past the point of redundancy. Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick, some would call him the real life manifestation of Ebenezer Scrooge, has gone on record saying that he wants to milk franchise's like Guitar Hero for all their worth.

Bet you haven't seen that banner in awhile!

Alright, well in the news recently there's been some hubbub over video games. And by recently I mean a few weeks ago. The situation was this: Renowned film critic Roger Ebert revisited his outrageous claims that video games are not art:

"I was a fool for mentioning video games in the first place. I would never express an opinion on a movie I hadn't seen. Yet I declared as an axiom that video games can never be Art. I still believe this, but I should never have said so. Some opinions are best kept to yourself." (Read roger's article here)

Mass Effect 2 Review

There's really only one way to begin this review. And that's to point some flaws in my review of Mass Effect 1.

In that review I described Mass Effect as "gaming nirvana." Now I see just how cruel that description was. Of course, at that time I had no idea that the game's sequel would eclipse it in every single way shape and form. During that review I was still riding the sensation I had from the amazing first play through. During the second play through I began to see the issues of an imperfect interface and a sense of linearity to my progression. Mass Effect 2 shattered those feelings.

Hello internet and welcome to your daily dose of revolution. Here is a picture of Lenin for your contemplation whilst you read this most important of articles.

Why, you ask, WHY, have these bloggers who have slept dormant these past few months returned with such radical notions of revolution. The reason my fellow comrades is that our way of life as PC gamer's is being threatened. But before you grab your rifle and hunt down the evil capitalists responsible for this escapade, listen closely. The internet has been buzzing over an issue recently that is dear to every gamer who has ever joined a server on their PC (or Mac for that matter): Dedicated servers.
