Testing. We are the world. we are the children.

This is an amazingly creative test sentence.

Editors Desk: Giants' Martinez resumes rehab against Modesto

In search of an inspiring read? Check out Brian VanderBeek's story today about San Francisco Giants pitcher Joe Martinez, who is trying to work his way back to the big leagues after being struck in the head by a line drive early in the season. Martinez isn't bitter about the experience. He'll be on the  mound at John Thurman Field tonight as the San Jose Giants take on the Modesto Nuts.

Editors Desk: 'Talk about' feature

Here's a nifty little utility in The Hive that I hadn't noticed until recently. It's the "talk about" function that you'll find in the controls box at the top left corner of each page on the site. It's the link directly below "recent posts" that many of our users click.

By clicking "talk about," you'll get a list of dozens of recent stories that have moved on modbee.com in several categories. There's even stuff from sacbee.com.

You can click the headline to read the story, but even better, note the small blue "b" icon to the right of each headline. Click that and it brings up a formatted blog entry, headline, photos and all. You can post it as is or edit it any way you choose.

Editors Desk: The death of Michael Jackson

If you thought the media coverage of Michael Jackson was a circus while he was alive, imagine what we'll see now that he's dead. Word is breaking from Los Angeles this afternoon that the "King of Pop" went into cardiac arrest and was brought to an LA hospital in a coma. The celebrity gossip site apparently was the first media outlet to report that Jackson died, followed by the LA Times, CBS News and The Associated Press.

As I write this post, CNN is showing live footage of swarms of journalists setting up cameras outside the hospital. Coverage of Jackson's death will continue without interruption for several days. Remember how intensely the death of Anna Nicole-Smith was covered? Jackson's death will dwarf that.
