Burglary Horror Stories

It seems like everyone has a break-in story, whether it's your neighbor, you or even the insurance agent on the phone when you make your claim about lost goods. Maybe that's not surprising, given that Stanislaus County has one of the highest burglary rates in the state.

In December 2007, for example, there were more than 1,000 reported burglary victims from Manteca to Turlock. The value of their lost property? Some $1.6 million.

Do you have a story to share? If so, just comment on this post.

And check out The Bee's burglary packages Sunday and Monday for an in-depth look at many facets of this problem.

Discerning Thieves Really Chap My Uvula Bnic

I have been lucky for the most part. But some years ago my car was broken into in the Santa Cruz Harbor parking lot. I had about 200 CDs in an old hard case. The thief must have been confident, he had plenty of time. He sorted through my collection, taking only CD's by; Jon Luc Ponte, Stefan Grapelli, Izsac Perelman, Vladamir Horowitz, Andres Segovia, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Leo Kottke, Charlie Parker and four - Nina Simone's.

Thank heavens he didn't see my beloved copy of   Ernest Borgnine's , Christmas Favorites.

Don't you just hate a thief with good taste?

Good Taste?

But then again I like the 80's alternative bands so what do I know!

When I first moved to my house I had my bike stolen out of the back of my truck that was parked in the driveway. Since then, I always make sure to watch all who hang around my neighborhood. There have been several time I have approached park cars that have been parked behind my house in the alley. Usaully drugs and alcohol consumption are the activity taken place. I ask them to leave or the police will be called. It is all about be aware and not afraid of approaching those who do not belong in the area. I have only had to get physical twice and it was with those who do not have a home and do not work. To the relief of my elderly neighbors these guys no longer walk our streets.

May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.
